Frequently Asked Questions about Day Camp
What do campers need to bring with them?
Lunch (no refrigerators available), sunscreen, refillable water bottle, bathing suit and towel. Do Not Bring: toys, phones, video games, iPod's, trading cards, etc.
Can I meet the camp staff prior to summer?
"Meet the Counselor Night" on Tuesday, June 1st from 7:00pm-8:00 pm at the Plano Legacy YMCA in the gym. All counselors from both Legacy Park and Russell Creek will be there.
Can I request my child be in the same group as his/her friend?
A request can always be made simply by writing the request on your child's form, but we can not guarantee that this will be approved. Age and ratios are factors in not being able to honor this request.
Can my five-year-old child sign up for the six-year-old camp?
Licensing standards will not allow the child to move up an age bracket. Children can always move down to be with a sibling, but we can not move a child up. The only exception would be if it was the week of their birthday.
My child doesn't like a field trip. Can he/she join another camp?
Licensing standards will not allow a child to transfer from one camp to another, regardless if it is a day, an hour or so forth. If a child does not want to attend a field trip, it is the responsibility of the parent to find alternate care that day.
Can my child be walked over to swim lessons/tennis lessons while still in camp?
Please schedule extracurricular activities around camp. Staff is not allowed to walk children to lessons according to licensing standards.
Will you prorate Camp? Can my child attend only 3 days or 1/2 days?
No. The only exception is summer school. However, the parent is responsible for transporting the child between summer school and camp. The YMCA will not pick up or deliver a child to summer school.
Why do we have to sign in and out? I'm in a hurry!
We are licensed by TDHSH and it is required. All parents/guardians must sign campers in and sign them out - no exceptions. This is for the safety and protection of your child, which we take very seriously at the YMCA.
*Legacy day camps sign in/out will be in the main lobby. Legacy Discovery sign in/out will be in what is now the Preschool room. We will have signs pointing them to the right door.
*Russell Creek sign in will be inside the Y straight to the back wall at the "T" (just left of the locker rooms).
Does weather effect the camp day?
Camp goes on regardless of weather. Field trips may be cancelled or rescheduled due to inclement weather.
In the event or red ozone days, we will increase the amount of time that we meet indoors, however we may still be outdoors implementing low key activities in shaded areas. We always remind the children to drink plenty of water everyday and reapply sunscreen throughout the day.
Do you accept three-year-old campers?
Day Camp children must be age 4 by the end of summer camp (August 14) and MUST BE potty trained (definition: able to recognize and communicate the need to independently use the bathroom).

We can not sign up a child up for camp on CCS until a CCS representative calls AND sends a letter to the childcare staff confirming a child's tuition will be paid.
Do you provide Scholarships?
